Media Mail Shipping

“Media Mail” is a cost-effective shipping option offered by the United States Postal Service (USPS) for sending media items such as books, manuscripts, DVDs, CDs, and other types of media.

To ship using Media Mail, the content of the package must be educational media or books. Items such as magazines, newspapers, video games, and other non-educational materials are not eligible for Media Mail.

The cost of shipping using Media Mail is usually lower than other shipping methods, but the delivery time may take longer, typically 2-8 days, depending on the destination and volume of mail being processed. Additionally, Media Mail packages may be subject to inspection by USPS to verify that they contain eligible media items.

It’s important to note that the use of Media Mail for non-qualifying items is illegal and may result in additional fees or penalties.

The USPS allows the following to be sent (up to 70 lbs):

  • Books (at least 8 pages)
  • 16-millimeter or narrower width films
  • Printed music and test materials
  • Video and sound recordings
  • Playscripts and manuscripts
  • Printed educational reference charts
  • Medical loose-leaf pages and binders
  • Computer-readable media
